Shockwave Therapy
Extracoporeal Shockwave Therapy (ECSW)
Shockwave therapy is an evidence based treatment approved by the FDA to treat tendon problems, either within the tendon (tendinopathy) or at the tendon insertion on the bone (enthesopathy). Some common tendon problems are plantar fasciitis, medial/lateral epicondylitis (golfer/tennis elbow), Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, and calcific tendiniosis of the shoulder (rotator cuff). Other problems that shockwave therapy can help with are delayed bone healing, greater trochanteric hip pain, and tibial stress reaction/shin splints. Shockwave therapy can help people with these conditions who are not responding to other PT interventions/treatment and want to avoid more invasive treatments including surgery. Shockwave therapy usually involves 4-6 treatments which stimulate the body’s own healing response and repair mechanism.
