BLOOD FLOW RESTRICTION THERAPY (BFR)
Blood Flow Restriction Therapy can help people develop or maintain muscle mass with much lighter/lower loads. Using BFR “cuffs” (think of a blood pressure cuff), muscle hypertrophy can be achieved via a biochemical reaction vs. a mechanical overload reaction. This can help patients who are recovering from fractures, surgery, muscle/tendon injuries where it is not yet indicated to stress the muscle/tendon/bone mechanically through a large force, but the BFR can create a chemical stress to the tissue via restriction blood flow temporarily.
